Awakening Session

I promised some more information about my 1:1 Awakening Sessions, so let me tell you a bit about one of my recent sessions.

On a balmy Florida afternoon, I lead Sasha (that’s what we’ll call her today) in some gentle yoga stretches to awaken her body. She’s then invited to strike her “power pose” that makes her feel most confident and empowered in her life and work. Chest open, head held high, she thrusts both fists toward the ground in a posture of proud defiance.

She. Looks. Fierce. I love it.

After drawing three cards from the Tehom Center Affirmation Deck and inviting Sasha to invoke the spirits of Goddess of Revolution, Guanyin, and Goddess of Peace, we both take a deep, cleansing breath.

I invite Sasha to respond to the first of three questions: How are you awakening the revolutionary within? I listen deeply as she pours out her heart. While listening, I begin to sketch the revolutionary goddess dwelling within Sasha.

I ask her, “what is preventing you from awakening the revolutionary within?” As she responds, we share stories of unjust systems strategically designed to disenfranchise women, making it harder to be who we are called to be. All the while, I’m drawing. Finally, Sasha answers my final question: Tell me how you’re already a revolutionary. Her head lifts a bit higher and she sits taller in her seat as I listen and complete her drawing.

As our session comes to a close, I ask Sasha to take on her power pose once again and to say aloud an affirmation that she chooses.

“I am Enough,” she proclaims boldly. I scrawl her words across the heart on the revolutionary goddess icon that I drew during our session. Matted and framed, she takes her art home as a visual and tangible reminder of the revolutionary dwelling inside her.

Later she says, “When I met with Angela, I was doing some deep career discernment, but was at a loss for how to move forward. The gift of my session with her was that it helped me tap into my deepest knowing, and clarity emerged.

Now, when I look at my incredible piece of art, it helps me sift through the feelings of uncertainty that inevitably rise up, and grounds me again in my own truth. I mean, I literally look over at her drawing and I'm right back in that space of deep clarity.

I knew I needed support; I didn't realize how much Angela's process would continue to serve me after our time together ended. I'm so grateful.”

Sasha need clarity and she got it. That’s invaluable!
